Luke 4:9-11 ∙ Worship Wednesday 7.1.20

Yesterday I was taking notes on Luke chapter 4, and I got to the part where the devil was tempting Jesus. Basically, satan was telling Jesus to do all these things, and Jesus was refusing, and using scripture to tell the devil why He wouldn't do it.

And then something happened that really made me just say, "wow." Here are the verses:

"If you are the son of God, throw yourself down from here, for it is written, 'He will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,' and 'On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.'" (Luke 4:9-11)

Wow. Just, wow. Satan, THE satan, THE DEVIL, quoted scripture.

The devil is said to be a Bible expert, so he knows how to twist scripture, that's what he was doing to Jesus. Satan does this to YOU too. If you want him to leave you alone, you have to continually resist him.

Jesus answered Satan's misuse of scripture with proper use of the Bible, He says: "It is said, 'You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.'" (Luke 4:12)

I read this online, and it had me speechless.

"Sadly, many people will accept anyone who quotes a Bible verse as if they taught God's truth, but the mere use of Bible words does not necessarily convey the will of God."

Does that sound familiar? Does that remind you when people have a Bible verse in their instagram bio and post cute quotes on their story about God every now and then, but never REALLY make an attempt to learn about God, or to share the gospel? It should remind you of that.

The moral of this Worship Wednesday is: Satan will try to trick you. He'll USE the Lord's word to try to trick you.You just have to RESIST, and continue to educate people about God and learn more about God.
