Psalm 13 ∙ Worship Wednesday 8.12.20

Writer's picture: hannah jordanhannah jordan

Verse 1: "Will you forget me forever?" The pain in David's heart came from a sense that God had forgotten him. (Which is obviously false, God never forgets about any of us.) "How long, O Lord?" We've all asked that question at some point.

Verse 2: "How long must I take counsel in my soul"... The answers cannot be found looking inside yourself, but in looking to the Lord. You can't expect to find answers without God.

Verse 3: "Consider and answer me, O Lord my God"... David desperately cried out to God. "Light up my eyes"... David knew that even though he felt powerful feelings, he wasn't seeing reality. He knew deep down that God hadn't forgotten him.

Verse 4: "lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken." David knew that his enemies would gloat over his fall, so he was more determined to be moved.

Verse 5: "But I have trusted..." David had trusted in God's steadfast love before, so he knew he could do it again. "my heart shall rejoice in your salvation." -> solid ground for any believer.

Verse 6: "I will sing to the Lord..." -> expressing & increasing his joy "because he has dealt bountifully with me" In the beginning of this psalm, David was desperate for God to hear him and he was obviously very stressed. Now at the end, he's trusting in God & rejoicing in his salvation.

That is what we should do when we feel that God has forgotten us; trust. Know that we've trusted Him before and we can do it again.
